Although there were many variations of jackets produced by North Carolina, the one piece sleeve jackets from the end of the war have become the hallmark of what is known as a N.C. Depot Jacket. This jacket copies the details of the original jacket worn by John B. McRae of the 36th N.C. Troops. It has two interior pockets set into the osnaburg lining, a four piece body, one piece sleeves, low curved front collar, and a six button closure. There is a "J" shaped facing piece on the interior front panels.
Blanks are garments that are completely put together, but with no button holes or top stitching. A blank is wearable when you receive it. It is not a bundle of pieces that have to be sorted out and joined together. You will know that a blank is a fit before doing a lot of work on it only to find it does not fit and cannot be returned. Even better, blanks cost only a little more than other makers charge for a kit!
Please be sure that your blank fits you before finishing work is done as we will not accept returns of blanks once they have had finishing work done by anyone other than B. & B. Tart.
A blank includes the assembled pieces and instructions for finishing the garment.You will need to close the lining at the neck with a few whip stitches, work the button holes, sew on the buttons and topstitch the jacket if you choose to. Buttons and thread are not included but are available for an additional charge.
